The move from Tennessee was tricky, to say the least. We successfully moved all of our chickens, and the lucky rooster Rodney, and all of our bees safe and sound. It was a relocation of over 500 miles.
It took some settling in, and a little more than a little unpacking to get the store space ready. We had to do some creative decorating to make the foyer of our home into a small farmstand, but we got it done.
In better weather, we’ll have a self-serve outdoor space. But while the winter winds are blowing, both us and our customers I’m sure would prefer to stay indoors.

We offer our own 100% pure natural, raw honey and farm fresh eggs from our own chickens.
The honey comes in three different varieties:
Wildflower, Raspberry Blossom, and Apple Blossom.
To answer some of the more common questions we receive.
- Yes, we are beekeepers and our bees produce the honey.
- Yes, the eggs we have available all come from our own chickens.
- No, we don’t add any flavors or any additives of any kind to our honey. The varieties come from the predominant flowers that were in bloom when the bees made the honey. It is all 100% natural pure organic honey.

The honey we have now is from Tennessee. The bees made it last summer. Being November, there is nothing in bloom and the bees aren’t out collecting nectar. The first harvest of Maryland honey won’t be available until early next summer.
We do expect a bumper honey crop next year! Our neighborhood is blessed with many, many awesome nectar sources. Just on our own property we have an abundance of wildflowers, butterfly bushes, tulip poplar trees, flowering sassafras trees and much more.
Most people don’t realize that honeybees can travel up to five miles when they’re out foraging. Within that five miles from our bees are apple orchards, vineyards and many farms. These will be great sources of nectar too!

But wait, there’s more!
It has taken all season, but our baby chicks have finally grown up and are regularly laying beautiful farm fresh eggs. They’re delivering these to us now in a quantity that we can finally offer a few up for sale.

This variety of chickens means that our “typical” carton of eggs look like this:

We also have some sourwood trees available for sale! Sourwood are beautiful flowering trees that bloom in mid-summer, making them absolute magnets for honeybees, butterflies and other pollinators.

Where are we?
Hilltop Haven is on Hilltop Road in Cascade, Maryland. Just look for the Eggs and Honey banners.

Come by and see us!
Just remember, this is not only our small homestead, it is our home. If the sign on the door says “Open,” we’re open. Generally we’re available six days a week starting at 10am.
